Jamie Foxx attended the 2013 MTV Movie Awards this past Sunday wearing a shirt with Trayvon Martin’s face on it along with the victims of the Sandy Hook elementary school shooting. Jamie Foxx has been very vocal as a huge celebrity bringing continued awareness to Trayvon Martin and his case. He continues to bring attention to issues of injustice and discrimination along with the Racism Black People face on a daily and have faced for many years in this Country. Instead of being applauded for his effort in awareness, Jamie Foxx was greeted with ignorance by people through social media outlets who had numerous racist insults for him and his shirt. Some of them saying “F*ck Jamie and Trayvon” and that “Trayvon was a thug who got what he deserved”. Wow, at this point in my life its never a surprise to me, but its still always a shame to see how some people choose to think. Ron King a Florida police officer was also just fired for using and trying to distribute “Trayvon Martin” Targets for gun training practice. The targets have a Hoody, Skittles and a can of Ice-T on them. These are the items that Trayvon had the night he was killed.
Its only been a little over a year since 17-year-old Trayvon Martin was Shot and Killed by George Zimmerman on February 26th, 2012 in Florida, but the case is still under much scrutiny for many reasons. A lot of people are still outraged feeling as though Trayvon being killed was a hate crime and racially motivated and it is understandable due to the evidence. Zimmerman said he saw Trayvon walking around his neighborhood and called the police while driving stating that “This guy looks like he’s up to no good, or he’s on drugs or something. It’s raining and he’s just walking around, looking about” and "looking at all the houses". Zimmerman got out his car and approached Trayvon who wasn’t doing anything criminal and un-armed, a “Violent encounter” ensued and he shot Trayvon. That still sounds like some Bullsh*t and very self incriminating to me! Those satements alone showed me that his actions were motivated by race and appearance. Zimmerman used Florida’s controversial “Stand Your Ground Law” as protection and justification claiming self-defense and is currently set to go on trial.
How do you feel about the ignorant insults and Jamie Foxx’ shirt? How do you feel about the case as a whole and how its been handled so far. As always feel Free to share your thoughts and opinions…
